post pregnancy. yikes.

oh the things i didn't know about post pregnancy...

1- the 'after tummy'. oh goodness. of course i knew that after 9 months of stretching out- it wasn't going to go right back to normal. but oh it is just a weird feeling. and to be honest, kind of gross. it just kind hangs there...all...flabby. yes, i am sorry, but when i realized for the first time i was shocked. BUT, even by the time i left the hospital it had gotten a ton better, and with breastfeeding it went away verrrrry quickly. so there is hope. just don't be shocked/grossed out like i was ha.

2- the shot. i guess i thought after going through child birth, i wouldn't have to have anything else done to me. i could have declined the shot (for tetanus/pertussis) but it was recommended/a good choice. and after going through child birth, you'd think- a shot isn't a big deal. and really it wasn't. it was me being whiney thinking, no more please!

3- the slipper socks. rock. that is all. i got these socks for labor/post labor. They were warm and had tracking. yes i might have brought two pairs home. they're awesome.

4- the bruising. i looked like i had been in some sort of massive fight. i bruise easily in general. and still now i find bruises all over and wonder - seriously? where are they coming from?

5- the awkward after birth moments. okay, this may be tmi... but whatevs. so i had a male OB- who i LOVED. he was great. super knowledgeable and very reassuring. very calm, had a great bedside manner (better than the woman at the practice) and he was just awesome. I got over pretty quickly during OB appointments that he was a man. i mean, he's a doctor and he's like 50 or something. However, after Ben was born and everyone (nurses, joey) were paying attention to little man, I was there while the doctor was doing his job. And for some reason, i felt this like awkward moment. looking back i think it's funny. i felt the need to create conversation. i mean really? you'd think after that, i really wouldn't care. anyway, that's just me.

6- the photographer. so they send around someone who offers to take pictures of your child. they aren't even like really great pictures. it's some teenager, taking pictures in your hospital room. For one - do you really say "no, i wouldn't like any pictures of my child, thank you" - how bad does that sound. and you feel guilty like "i'll regret it if i don't". another thing, they asked if joey and i wanted to be in the pictures. i mean really? i don't want any memories of how i looked - Ben yes, me? no thanks. finally, after the pictures are taken, they loaded them into this automatic slideshow with some super cheesy song and play it for you... of course, you're hormonal and ridiculous and start SOBBING. manipulative? i think yes.
