new years resolutions...

i would say i have made a new years resolution to write more blogposts, but if that is true then i have already miserably failed. oops. i don't really/never have done "new years resolutions". mainly because i think year round there are always things that need to change, and i've never understood the motivation that the new year would give to make those changes in comparison to any other day. i almost think one would be more motivated to make those changes when the idea comes year round, rather than sitting down and thinking about what types of changes you could be making... anyway, all that to say coincidentally i have recently been thinking of things that i want to do more, not really change (like dieting... but i guess they could be classified as new years resolutions.

one of those things is to write/read more poetry. i love poetry. in 9th grade i wrote my very first 'real' poem. and by real i mean not coming up with words that rhyme or thinking of 'haikus'. my first poem was actually about how my dad would read poetry to me at night before bed. i don't have a copy of it anymore, but i do remember i was pretty proud of it, and my dad loved it... of course after that high school poetry was more of a chore than anything fun... i loved writing it, loved reading it... but hated interpreting it... which was highschool english.

in college i took a creative writing- poetry class. It was one of my favorite classes i took... basically we had to write a poem a week, read it in class, and have our classmates interpret/edit/comment. if you know me, you would assume i would HATE a class like that.. but i loved it. maybe b/c everyone seemed to like (not hate) my poetry, or because you couldn't really grade someone's personal poem poorly...but it was great, and now i have started somewhat of a portfolio. and i really want to keep writing. since that class i have written, but not as much as i want to... so one of 'things i want to do more of this year and on' is write more poetry.  i contemplated posting some of my poems on here, but haven't decided... i definitely think what someone thinks is good, another could hate, and the poems do come from personal experiences...

another thing i want to do more is take pictures. joey got me a really nice camera for a wedding present and i love it, but i don't know how to use all the neat features on it. I love photography but never had the opportunity to take that class in high school, so if anyone wants to take the time to teach me how to use my camera that would be great... so hopefully i'll be posting pictures soon too.
