the other day i was sitting in traffic (this takes up too much of my time, my life, and i can't wait until 3 hours of my day are not sitting in a car...but i digress), and I saw a bumper sticker on a car in front of me that said "Got Hope?" I immediately thought, oh nice, a Christian bumper sticker about hope in Jesus. and then, i saw the fine print, that made me literally, sick to my stomach:
it made me feel so sad for society and America and mankind all at the same time. if we are putting our hope in a mortal human being, much less a politician (whether or not democratic or republican) we are going to be disappointed. there is no way they will live up to or "fulfill the expectations" that we are holding for this person to fulfill. there is no way one person will hold the hope for the entire nation. and all the people putting their hope in Barack Obama, will be disappointed, and have hope in someone who will fail.He is human He will make mistakes and He will fail. If he doesn't fail for one person, he will fail for another.
now please don't freak out on me, this has nothing to do with how Barack Obama will do as our President. He could do great. He could get us out of the horrible debt we are in (unlikely) he could find away to feed all the hungry and poor (unlikely) he could find all the orphans in the world homes (unlikely)... and i'm not saying McCain is someone we could've put our Hope in. No he isn't. But no matter what there is NO mortal person everyone can put their hope in.
BUT there is someone we can put our hope in!
Jesus Christ is the person we can put our Hope in and be completely satisfied, be fulfilled, have our future secure in...
"O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption" Psalm 130:7
