yum

in my quest to become somewhat domestic i have experimented with some recipes. i loooove baked ziti and this recipe turned out great. [oh and is so easy that i can handle it]

You Need:
  • 1 pound dried ziti pasta
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 (26 ounce) jars of spaghetti sauce
  • 6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
To Do:
  • Boil water, add ziti pasta, cook until al dente (about 8 minutes)
  • Brown onion and ground beef over medium heat; Add spaghetti sauce and simmer about 15 minutes
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Butter or Spray 9X13 pan and layer as follows: 1/2 ziti, 1/2 sauce mix, provolone cheese, sour cream, remaining pasta, remaining sauce, mozzarella, parmesan cheese
  • Bake covered for 30 minutes, or until cheese has melted
Some Notes:
  • Makes a VERY LARGE 9X13 pan... so if you have an large pan, great, if not- you might need a small overflow pan
  • Can be made vegetarian by replacing meat with sliced zucchini and mushrooms
  • Other meats can be used, like italian sausage or ground turkey
  • Ricotta cheese can be used in place of sour cream- i personally hate ricotta cheese... that's why i love this recipe.
It can also be 'healthy'... simply use low fat/reduced fat cheeses and fat free sour cream. You can also make it with ground turkey instead.

Enjoy with some salad and fresh bread
